What kind of game is it?

This is mahjong solitaire: one player removes matching free tiles from stacked shapes such as a heart, grid or crescent. Clear the board to finish an ordinary level. It is different from traditional multiplayer mahjong, where players build combinations rather than remove a solitaire layout.

The developer targets older players with large symbols, a warm background and a relatively simple interface. A tablet can offer more readable tiles than a small phone, but comfort depends on the player and screen. Ordinary levels are untimed and support offline play after installation.

Vita Studio also makes the separate Vita Mahjong Wood, Vita Solitaire, Vita Jigsaw, Vita Color and Vita Word Search. The official Vita Mahjong website offers browser play. Our own play page uses Mah, a separate open-source game. The review page keeps ratings, dates and regional differences together, including the September 2026 Apple snapshot of 148,000 ratings and a number 3 Board-chart position.

Learn the matching rule

  1. Find two identical tiles with nothing on top and an open left or right side.
  2. Tap them in turn, or use the documented drag-to-match control.
  3. Open upper and outside layers so more tiles become available.
  4. Use a hint for an existing legal pair, or shuffle/restart when none remain.

The screen shows the level, score and currently available Matches. At zero matches, a hint cannot create a pair. Daily tasks in the documented system have three stages: the first gives one hint and one shuffle, and the second and third give two of each. Restarting a level is another way to begin a new arrangement without spending a saved shuffle in that version.

Levels and competitive progress

The advertised 10,000-plus count covers the main ladder. Frequent updates can change available content, but an update every one or two weeks is a historical pattern rather than a guarantee of new boards on a fixed schedule.

Later boards generally become denser, and the level button gives a difficulty indication. Competitive standings belong to themed events, where eligible tiles contribute points and the table shows placement and remaining time. See levels and leagues for the distinction and help with a difficult number.

Recognize special tiles

  • Hidden faces: tap or press to reveal the picture briefly, then find its free partner.
  • Mystery tiles: look for the particular partner before clearing nearby pairs.
  • Challenge tiles: the relevant match collects the item and its event points.
  • Journey tiles: clear the marked objective tiles for the weekly theme.
  • Shooting Star: with Auto Match enabled, it can remove a random free pair.

Flowers and seasons have their own within-group matching rule. The special-tile guide explains these differences without treating every theme name as a permanent game mode.

Comfort and saved progress

Large tiles and untimed ordinary boards can suit players who prefer a relaxed puzzle. The documented settings separate Music, Sounds, Voice and Vibration. Our older-player guide explains how to set up a first session together.

Matching uses attention and short-term recall during play. The memory guide separates that activity from studies of other games and combined interventions. There is no established Vita-specific medical benefit or required training schedule.

Before changing phones, inspect Save your progress and connect through an option actually offered by your build. Earlier documented versions offered Google and Facebook. Verify the new device’s level and badges before deleting the old installation; see save and transfer help.

Ads and paid offers

The US Apple listing checked November 5, 2026 listed Mahjong Ads Remove at $5.99 and subscriptions at $2.99 weekly, $5.99 monthly and $19.99 annually. These replace the source’s Russian-price examples for this English guide. Offers, taxes and eligibility can differ by account and store.

A product name does not prove that all optional rewarded videos disappear. Read the offer shown in the app and the ads and subscription guide before paying. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Where to play

Traditional mahjong is commonly a four-player combination-building game. The solitaire here borrows the tiles, not that multiplayer ruleset.

Android and Apple can offer different builds. Check your own store and use update help if a new version will not install.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Vita Mahjong free?

Downloading the official mobile app costs nothing. Advertising and optional in-app purchases fund it. Check the offer in your store before paying; the Stgames Windows title is a different product.

    How many levels are there?

More than 10,000 are advertised. No permanent final level is verified here. Daily and the weekly Journey sequence have separate progress.

    Is there a timer?

Ordinary levels are untimed. Themed challenges and Journey have event deadlines, which are different from a timer on every move.

    Can I play without internet?

Downloaded ordinary levels support offline play. Account synchronization, updates and some daily or online content need a connection.

How do I keep progress when changing phones?

Check Save your progress on the old device, use the same supported account on the new one and verify levels and badges before deleting anything. Recovery without an existing connected save is not guaranteed.

Can I play on a computer?

The official website has Play Game. Apple lists qualifying Mac compatibility with a not-verified-for-macOS caveat. The Stgames Windows listing and our Mah game are separate products.
